Ruppersberger: Al-Awlaki's Death Big Blow to Al-Qaeda

The American-born terrorist was killed in a predator drone attack in Yemen.

U.S. Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, the ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, released the following statement on the death of Anwar al-Awlaki in Yemen: “This is a great day for America.  This is the second biggest blow to Al-Qaeda since September 11th, 2001, right behind the elimination of Osama Bin Laden.  Anwar al-Awlaki was an extremely dangerous, charismatic leader who actively recruited and inspired people to murder innocent Americans using hate-filled media messages. "Al-Awlaki was behind several high-profile attacks including the failed attempt to blow up a Detroit-bound plane on Christmas Day in 2009 and U.S. bound cargo planes in 2010.  Al-Awlaki has now been removed from the battlefield.  This …

The Ruppersberger Report

Ruppersberger Issues Statement on Debt Compromise

Ranking members of the House Government Select Committee votes in favor of deal.

Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger voted in favor of the budget deal that passed Congress Monday evening.  In a statement issued to media, Ruppersberger outlined the deal, which increases the nation's debt limit by at least $2.1 trillion and will cut $1 trillion from the budget over the next 10 years.  The measure passed the House by a 269–141 vote. From Dutch's desk: Americans elect their representatives to work together to do what’s best for the country. Nothing is perfect, but politics is about consensus, and consensus is about making sacrifices for the good of our nation. If we had defaulted, all Americans would have been harmed, especially seniors, children, our middle class and those less fortunate. As Ranking Member of the Intelligence …

Of course Dutch voted for a "clean" debt ceiling increase with NO strings attached. If he had had his way, there would have been no debt deal -- just a brand new $2.4 trillion credit card for President Obama. He literally has no right to comment on efforts to lower our long term debt ... because he voted to avoid the conversation altogether (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2011/roll379.xml)   more ›

The Ruppersberger Report

Dutch Describes Bin Laden Death Photo

Rep. Ruppersberger was one of eight people to see the photo.

Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) said it only took one photograph to identify the lifeless body of America’s “No. 1 target”—Osama bin Laden. As the top-ranking Democrat on the House Select Committee on Intelligence, Ruppersberger was one of eight people who was shown the death photos of bin Laden during a Thursday morning meeting at CIA headquarters. The Intelligence Committee, or the “gang of eight,” as Ruppersberger called them, verified that the mission to eliminate bin Laden had been carried out.  Eight photos were laid out across a table, he said. The first in the set depicted a dead bin Laden. The following seven depicted an alive bin Laden to verify his features. “They had arrows pointing to the nose, lips, ears, that type of …

Last-Minute Budget Deal Averts Federal Shutdown

The deal, which cut more than $38 billion from the federal budget, came about an hour before the deadline.

President Barack Obama and leaders of Congress came to an agreement late Friday to narrowly avoid a government shutdown that would have furloughed thousands of federal workers. The deal came with about an hour to spare before the midnight deadline as Democrats and Republicans came to a consensus to cut more than $38 billion from the federal budget. Once the compromise was reached, Congress acted quickly to pass a measure to keep the government running until the budget can be officially approved next week. “Last night, after weeks of long and difficult negotiations over our national budget, leaders of both parties came together to avert a government shutdown, cut spending and invest in our future,” said Obama during his weekly video address…

First off, I must say there was not a loud enough message last November. These politicians local, state and federal must think they are above us the working man/woman. So I hope I hope the next election people stop hiding behind their political group and pick the right person to fix this country. We need to reform entitlement programs, cut spending, create a flat tax, secure our borders and set …   more ›
