Your Weekend: Music Festival, Football Opener

Here's a taste of what's happening this weekend.

Friday Bring the family to watch "Up" on an inflatable screen in Parkville. Towson's Feet on the Street has the band Rumba Club. Technicolor Motor Home, a Steely Dan tribute band, plays at the Recher Theatre in Towson. The Boss as in: Bruce Springsteen plays at Nationals Park. Saturday The first Charm City Music Festival hosts Weezer, Flogging Molly, Eve 6 and more at the Harbor East waterfront. Towson University hosts its football home opener against William and Mary. The game will be televised nationally on NBC Sports Network. The Tigers and Tribe are both 0-1 after showdowns at higher-division foes (Kent State and Maryland, respectively). Tickets are in demand for the Orioles' four-game set against the New York Yankees.

All weekend The Baltimore Orioles take on the New York Yankees for a pivotal four-game set. The Orioles are in the driver's seat on their way to what could be their first postseason appearance since the Clinton administration. Get your tickets in advance—Thursday's game, which includes the dedication of Cal Ripken Jr.'s statue, is sold out. Friday Wildlife expert and television personality Jack Hanna will speak at Goucher College in a fundraiser for the Maryland Zoo. The Arc Baltimore invites the neighbors over for Backyard Fest at its offices in Stoneleigh. Saturday Excelsior! Your Weekend: A Fair Warning

The Maryland State Fair opens this weekend in Timonium.

All weekend The Maryland State Fair opens for its 131st year at the Timonium Fairgrounds. Thursday is Ride Mania. Ride all night long for $16. The fair officially opens Friday. Check out the fair's website for details, a schedule and specials. Cirque du Soleil's Dralion performs several high-flying shows at the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore. The Orioles host the Toronto Blue Jays to kick off a seven-game home stand. Friday Feet on the Street visits Allegheny Avenue. As of this writing, the band for this Friday had yet to be announced. Towson Musician Makes Leap to Big Apple

Mike McFadden's career is taking off with recent national commercials and a new album.

Mike McFadden recalls how skeptical his parents were when he decided to forgo college to pursue a music career. "I wasn't really that good then, so they must have really thought I was crazy," he said. "But it's amazing now, when I tell my mom every once a week, when I get home, 'Yeah, I just sold three more commercials to Pennzoil.'" The Towson resident and 2006 Towson High graduate recently released a new album, "Heartbeat/Rapture," and after spending years making a name for himself on the Baltimore scene, he's gearing up to move this fall to New York in search of new opportunities. Towson Singer Earns 'American Idol' Audition

Cecilia Sugarman, 17, won the local Baltimore Idol contest and is en route to Oklahoma City today.

Cecilia Sugarman is used to taking things as they come in her musical career. Once, after setting up for a gig at her pool club, a freak rainstorm sent her scrambling to save her equipment. Now, the young musician is rushing to prepare for what could be her big break. Sugarman won this year's Baltimore Idol contest on FOX 45 and on Thursday, she flies to Oklahoma City for a Friday audition for American Idol. But she isn't letting this big chance at success go to her head. “Singing is just one of the gifts God gave me … I’m humbled to have won,” said Sugarman, a Towson resident for the past three years. Bill Murray Reportedly Looks to Crash Baltimore-Area Party

Website claims the actor is taking his penchant for party crashing on the road.

Is actor and comedian Bill Murray embarking on an ambitious cross-country tour? Humor website Super Official News claims Murray will be on tour starting in August, visiting 27 cities and stopping in the Baltimore area on Aug. 26. It's a humor site, and Bill Murray never officially announced a tour himself, but it's fun to dream. The only requirements, according to the website: alcohol and karaoke. Interested party organizers don't need to register. Just put up a banner on your house that says "BILL MURRAY CAN CRASH HERE." The website shows a group of people with such a banner in front of the White House. The President is a fan.
