But the real winner is the Ed Block of Courage Foundation, which has been the primary beneficiary of the dual singing contest and fundraiser for the last 11 years.

“This contest is really about reaching out the community, letting people come in and sing with all the proceeds going to a really good cause,” Paul Mittermeier, director of communications for the Ed Block of Courage Award Foundation, told Patch after the semifinals in June.

Tonight's winner will technically be the first "Voice of Baltimore" winner. For the last 10 years, Padonia Station hosted and named its winner "Baltimore Idol."

Independent news website VoiceofBaltimore.org (formerly InvestigativeVoice.com) has leant its name to the fundraiser.
