UPDATE: Police ID 2 Men Suspected Painkiller Fraud Operation

UPDATE—Baltimore County police have identified the two individuals suspected of conspiring to distribute Schedule II narcotics out of a Lutherville pain clinic. 

Gerald Wiseberg, 78, of Boca Raton, FL, and Michael Jacob Reznikov, 51, of Brooklyn, NY, were arrested Tuesday evening following a raid at the Healthy Life Medical Group clinic in Lutherville.

Wiseberg and Reznikov were the operators of the pain clinic, where doctors were reportedly over-prescribing powerful painkillers and other drugs to out-of-state addicts, according to an affidavit in support of a search warrant.

A Baltimore County Circuit Court judge this morning set the defendants' bail at 50,000—cash only. 

"At this morning's preliminary hearing, the judge also prohibited Wiseberg and Reznikov from traveling outside the U.S. pending trial, and ordered them to surrender their passports," according to a release. "Additional arrests are expected. All suspects in this case may face federal as well as state charges."

ORIGINAL—Baltimore County police said they have arrested two individuals suspected of fraudulently over-prescribing painkillers and other medications without properly examining patients over the course of the last year.

About 25 narcotics officers and DEA agents raided the Healthy Life Medical Group in Lutherville on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

"They seized non-drug evidence in what remains an ongoing investigation," according to a Baltimore County police news release.

"One was arrested at the Healthy Life clinic; the other was arrested at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport," the release states. "Their names will not be released today because they have not yet had judicial review. They are scheduled to appear before a Baltimore County Circuit Court judge tomorrow."

The clinic relocated from the 9600 block of Reisterstown Road to the 1100 block of York Road in Lutherville on Nov. 26, 2011, according to an affidavit in support of a search warrant.

The clinic was seeing more than 120 patients per day, based on 25 days of collected surveillance camera footage between April and May of this year, according to the affidavit obtained by Patch.

"These suspects, as well as any others who may be arrested in connection with this case, may face federal charges as well as Maryland charges," the release states.

The affidavit lists Alina Margulis and Michael Reznikov as the clinic's operators.
