We launched Lutherville-Timonium Patch on Aug. 27. We have compiled a Top 5 countdown of the worst crimes that we have reported since then.

  • 5) . What was most troubling about the break-ins was that four of the five incidents took place during daylight hours when no one was home. Two of the homes were broken into through rear windows, while unknown suspects were able to gain entry into the other three homes through unlocked windows. Baltimore County Police responded by increasing visible patrols throughout the area. "The similar nature of the crimes has lead Baltimore County detectives to believe they might be linked, but there is no clear evidence to suggest the suspect or suspects are the same," Patch reported in October. Burglars made off with a guitar, Ravens jerseys, a few laptops, among other items.
  • 4) . There have been four bank robberies in the area, but the incident in Heaver Plaza was the closest.  The suspect approached the counter and slipped the teller a note demanding money. It was later revealed that the suspect said he had a bomb strapped to his chest. He was last seen driving away in a black BMW with tinted windows.
  • 3) . No one was hurt. Seminary Avenue is a quiet street, aside from the occasional Light Rail  horn. If the crash wasn't enough to cause a stir, the owner of A Little Taste of Italy boarded up his shop with plywood and spray painted "Don't Drink + Drive" on it. The gaping hole has since been repaired.
  • 2) Police said alcohol may have played a factor, but there was no catalyst for the assaults. Both victims suffered wounds that were not life threatening.. They said they had never seen or heard of anything like the grisly attack taking place at the fairgrounds.
  • 1) Coming in at the No. 1 slot is a crime that was prevented in March. . Undercover detectives arrested Lybrand at a hotel in Timonium in a sting operation. Lybrand is scheduled for sentencing before U.S District Court Judge William D. Quarles Jr. at 1 p.m. on March 10, 2011.
