YEAR IN REVIEW: Top 10 Crime Stories of 2011

We countdown the most notable incidents of the last year.

Despite Lutherville-Timonium's relatively low crime statistics ( ), there will always be outliers that spike headlining news. 

Looking back on 2011, we find several key arrests, suspects still on the loose, and crimes against women and the elderly, among other incidents that we here at Patch work tirelessly to keep you abreast of. 

The following top 10 list of crime stories that we reported in 2011 was compiled and selected by Lutherville-Timonium Patch editor Nick DiMarco.

: We begin our countdown with the capstone story to a series we have been following since 2010. Deception burglaries became a real concern for police, so much so that then-police Capt. Martin Lurz actually joined patrols alongside his officers out of Precinct 7.

: Richard Wayne Poehlman's story gets more bizarre with every page turned in his extensive court record. The senior citizen was arrested on charges of child pornography. During the search of his home, police found an extensive marijuana growing operation. Oh, and he used his neighbor's wireless Internet password to cultivate his collection of videos.
