Three-Day Service Planned for William Donald Schaefer

The late Gov. William Donald Schaefer will be buried Wednesday at the Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium, but not before taking one last tour of the city and state he served for so many years.

A three-day service beginning Monday includes public viewings in Annapolis and Baltimore City, as well as a motorcade tour of the city. Funeral services will take place in Baltimore City, while the internment ceremony will take place in Baltimore County.

Schaefer’s body will lie in the Maryland State House in Annapolis from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. Members of the public may begin lining up as early as they like at the front entrance of the State House.

The public is encouraged to park at the Naval Memorial Stadium. Enter through Gate 5 on the west side of Taylor Avenue. Shuttles will be provided.

All viewing attendees are encouraged to show up prior to 1 p.m. to ensure services remain on schedule, according to press secretary Shaun Adamec.

From Annapolis, the former governor will take a tour of Baltimore City.

3:09 p.m - Schaefer's childhood home (620 Edgewood St.)

3:22 p.m. - Lexington Market (200 N. Paca St.)

3:32 p.m. - Mt. Vernon Monument 

3:38 p.m. - Basilica of the Assumption (409 Cathedral St.)

3:44 p.m. - Hippodrome Theatre (12 N. Eutaw St.)

 3:48 p.m. Camden Yards                        

 3:58 p.m. Federal Hill 

4:08 p.m. Schaefer Statue, Inner Harbor (motorcade will pass along Light Street)

4:12 p.m. National Aquarium (501 E. Pratt St.)

4:18 p.m. Little Italy (motorcade will travel along Eastern Avenue, onto Broadway)

4:25 p.m. Fells Point Plaza (foot of Broadway on Thames)

4:33 p.m. Lloyd Street Synagogues and Jewish Museum (corner of Lloyd and Lombard)

4:38 p.m. Healthcare for the Homeless (111 Park Ave.)      

There are special presentations planned for several of the stops along the tour. Drivers should expect heavy delays and congestion through the city, particularly in the Federal Hill neighborhood.

Schaefer's body will then be transported to Baltimore City Hall, where public viewings are scheduled for Monday evening from 6 to 9 and again on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will take place at Old St. Paul's Church in Baltimore at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Internment at the Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens in Timonium will follow. 

Once again, heavy traffic congestion is expected in the Timonium area throughout the day on Wednesday. There will be several road closures, including East Padonia Road for the motorcade procession.
