VIDEO: Ridgley Middle Students Stuck at the Bus Stop Because of Snow

The inch-thick accumulation of snow on the ground was enough to slow traffic and delay buses from picking up a group of students... but they didn't seem to mind all that much.

Editor's Note: Take a look at the video below of students enjoying the first significant snowfall of the season. They didn't seem to mind that their bus was 25 minutes late.

A group of Ridgely Middle School students were in high spirits Thursday afternoon, despite being forced to wait for a bus that was stuck in snow day traffic.

The county made the decision earlier today to close schools an hour early because of impending snow fall and the potential for freezing roads. Traffic was at a standstill throughout the Lutherville-Timonium area, which caused delayed bus circulation for at least one group of students.

"For anybody who was out on the roads this afternoon, you could see that it was very treacherous and very slow going," Charles Herndon, Baltimore County Public Schools spokesman, said.

He said it's "not a surprise" that some buses were late picking up students. He reaffirmed that the county's first priority was to transport the students home safely.

Many of the buses remained in constant circulation picking up students from high schools first then middle and elementary schools.

"It's a small price to pay to get these kids home safely," Herndon said.

But the students waiting at the bus stop at the T-section of Ridgely and Eastridge roads didn't mind. They laughed and gossiped about what they were going do with an extra hour not spent in a classroom.

After about 25 minutes the students were ushered back inside the building by school faculty members.
